Abbeydale's Quick Start package gets your organisation on to the internet quickly
and efficiently with a minimal outlay. To take advantage of this special
price you must already have an internet connection, ie. you must have an account
with an internet service provider (ISP) and be able surf the internet, but that is
all. (If you don't have one, click here to see how
Abbeydale can help you.) The package includes everything else you need to make
your on-line presence felt...
- the web site itself, one or two pages plus a contact page and
a map to help clients find you.
- a .uk domain name if you don't already have one, eg.
www.yourcompany.co.uk (depending on availability).
- email redirection from your domain to your service provider.
- a selection of "templates" for the look and feel of your site.
- one free update to your site within the first 6 months
Internet service providers (ISPs) typically provide a limited amount of free web
space on which your site can be 'hosted', ie. the files making up your web-site
are stored on your service provider's computers, and these are available to the
whole of the internet. Some ISPs provide this free space only to non-commercial
users and this may mean having your site hosted elsewhere. Abbeydale can check
this for you and, if necessary, arrange alternative hosting - tho there will be
an additional cost. Hosting companies tend to charge on a monthly or yearly basis -
but typcially only two or three pounds per month for a small site.
Your site can be in your company's colours, with your logo or letterhead style graphic
at the top of each page, and can take one of a number of styles as detailed below.
All styles include bold heading text and keywords to be picked up by search engines
and can contain cross reference links within the site and to other sites. Your
quick start site can be used as the basis for a bigger site at a later date if you need
to grow.

Single column 'flat' site
The flat style is most useful if your site will typically be viewed on small
screens or has images or other content that can't be broken up into sections,
as in the example below...

Two column 'magazine style' site
Magazine pages are generally multi-column and have pictures and text spread
more or less throughout the pages. This works well for web-sites tho you must
bear in mind the restricted space on a screen compared with a magazine page:
site viewers don't like having to scroll way down to the bottom of one column only
to scroll back up again to start the next column! With a little thought the two
column style can be attractive. Abbeydale's own site is in two column format.
Tabular site
This style suits a site showing a number of photographs or drawings along with
captions or brief text descriptions - prices perhaps. Click on the
image below to visit this tabular site...
Other formats
Even a simple site needn't be limited in style - the example below began life as a simple
starter package but rapidly become something more, including downloadable documents in
Acrobat (.PDF file) format and in Microsoft Word format, and an option to pay for
subscriptions by credit card using Paypal. The sidebar heading style is an attractive
way to include bullet points or highlights in the text.
If you have seen other styles elsewhere then tell us and we will try to incorporate the
features you like in your own site.
